Stand-up paddleboard yoga is an incredible method to take your yoga to another level and is unquestionably probably the greatest advantage of getting into it.

Paddleboarding is increasing in popularity and SUP yoga classes are beginning wherever there is water.

You don’t need to be at the pinnacle of wellness to utilize a paddleboard either.

Yet you will notice that your body gets fitter the more you get on that board and the right paddleboard yoga gear will help you along.

Doing a yoga routine in a lake or on a calm bit of sea will be incredibly unwinding, and you won’t get any of the commotions or interferences of consistent life.

There is some paddleboard Yoga equipment that you will need in order to properly do paddleboard Yoga.

At the very least, you will need a paddleboard and an oar to help you move around.

There is other paddleboard equipment that can be added but the ones above are the bare minimum.

Paddleboard Yoga Gear That You May Bring Along. If you’re going to paddleboard yoga, it’s important to have some essential gear to make the practice even better. Some of them are:

  • Paddleboards
  • Oars or Paddles
  • Board Anchors
  • Solar Phone Chargers
  • Safety Straps
  • Air Pumps
  • Board Fins
  • Life Jackets
  • Paddleboard Yoga Gear To Wear
  • Ropes and Fasteners
  • Equipment Bags
  • Paddleboard Racks

Before you start, however, you need to ensure you’re appropriately arranged with the right equipment that will work for you.

Paddleboards

The first paddleboard Yoga Gear that you’ll require for stand-up Paddleboarding yoga is a Paddleboard of course.

There are generally 3 kinds of paddleboards:

  1. Epoxy Boards
  2. Inflatable Paddleboards
  3. Make Your Own Boards

You don’t need to spend a whole lot of money to get you started.

Check out our post How to Choose The Right Paddleboard.

Epoxy Rigid Paddleboards

Epoxy Rigid Paddleboards
(Amazon)

Epoxy paddleboards are solid and rigid, yet very strong and lightweight.

It requires a rooftop rack or trailer to convey it, and necessities a decent estimated space to store it.

If you need to do SUP yoga, you will require a board that permits you a lot of space to move and stretch.

The wider your board is, the steadier it will be, so get one that is at least 30 inches wide.

The length needs to give you a lot of space to work and occasionally you could use that extra space to store.

The optimal size should be somewhere around 10 to 12 feet.

A few sheets are intended for yoga and accompany a deck cushion effectively fitted.

A Yoga mat that is properly fitted to your board should cover the vast majority of your board and it has a non-slip surface.

As the board gets wet, you’ll essentially continue to slide off if you attempt to complete yoga without it.

Inflatable Paddleboards

Inflatable Paddleboards
(Amazon)

These are the less expensive choice and are more mainstream with beginner paddle Yoga enthusiasts.

They usually come in a kit that includes several cool paddleboard gear that you may also need.

They will save you money from getting all of these parts separately.

These can be conveyed in backpacks or the storage compartment of a vehicle and permit more opportunities where you can utilize them.

They work similarly just as an epoxy SUP and which choice of SUP you pick is only a question of decision. If you have an inflatable SUP, you will also need an air pump to blow it up.

If you are trying paddleboarding for the first time you can try the epoxy paddleboard or the inflatable paddleboards to see which one you would like best.

Make Your Own Paddleboard

Can you make your own Paddleboard?  If you are crafty enough you can design and make your very own paddleboard yoga gear when you decide to make a board of your own.

Stand up paddleboarding has been around for many years and has simply evolved over time.

The sport is originally from Polynesia. At the time, the Polynesians cut large planks assembled from tree trunks to make rafts.

They sailed standing or seated on their boat using a paddle.

So if the Polynesians could do it, imagine what you could do with today’s power tools.

I would advise reading some books on the topic that would give you some tips and insights.

Oars or Paddles

SUP Oar SUP Paddles
(AMAZON)

The second paddleboard yoga gear that you will most likely need is an oar or a paddle to guide your SUP into the water.

The correct size of oar will depend on how tall you are.
You can get an adjustable paddle that will adjust to your needs.

On the off chance that you utilize your board for yoga, it’s a smart thought to ensure you have a paddle leash.

These join to the side of the board and hold your oar while it isn’t being used.

Several choices of paddles are available to you:

  • 2-piece paddles that will allow split/attach in the middle
  • 3-piece paddles that easily fit into an inflatable SUP carry bag
  • Adjustable paddles that you can perfectly adjust to your size
  • Solid paddles (1-piece ) are usually stronger and more steady

Regardless of which one you choose make sure that you secure the oar on your board while you complete your yoga routines.

Otherwise, you may discover when you finish that your oar has slipped overboard and vanished.

Board Anchors

What’s a Paddleboard Anchor for? When out in the water you may need something to keep your board in place.

Depending on your location, you may or may not need it.

I would have one just in case of rough waters, current, or wind that may take you and your board away from your desire spot.

Whichever one you decide to get, make sure to secure the anchor to your board before you cast it.

From personal experience, you do not want your anchor and rope to disappear in the water.

If possible get two anchors, one for the nose of the paddleboard and one for the tail, that way your board will not be swinging in the wind.

There are 4 kinds of paddleboard Yoga Gear anchors that are easily available:

  • Grapnel Board Anchor
  • Mushroom Paddleboard Anchor
  • Danforth SUP Anchor
  • Sandbag Paddleboard Anchor

Grapnel Board Anchor

Paddleboard Anchor
(AMAZON)

What is a Grapnel Anchor? A Grapnel Anchor is to secure small crafts like paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, or dinghies in place.

Fisherman with small boats also finds it very useful and easy to use.

They are very compact, easy to fold, are easy to store, and also fit very nicely on your backpack.

The power of this anchor derives from hooking onto objects in the water like sand or rocks.

You can find them by themself or get them in a kit that comes with rope, attaching clip, floating buoy, and a storage bag.

Mushroom Paddleboard Anchor

Mushroom Anchor
(AMAZON)

What is a Mushroom Anchor? A mushroom anchor is an upside-down mushroom shape anchor that would hold a small craft.

When silt builds on the anchor it will result in a strong grip on your craft.

Lightweight, yet very strong it can hold your paddleboard secure on the water.

It can also be used for kayaks, small fishing boats, and other small crafts.

Works great on soft mud, unpacked sand, or silt bottoms.

Danforth SUP Anchors

Danforth Anchor
(AMAZON)

What is a Danforth Anchor? Flat anchors or Danforth anchors, named after the name of their inventor, perform well on mud, sand, or sediment bottoms.

With its adjustable legs, the Fortress anchor is an evolution of the flat anchor.

She is very popular on tenders and small keelboats. On larger keelboats, a Danforth anchor can be used as an auxiliary anchor for short periods with good weather conditions.

Depending on your needs you can get them in 4lb, 8lb, 10lb, and more.

Please get the appropriate weight for the craft you are trying to secure.

This anchor will work pretty well on mud, silt, and sand, definitely one of the best paddleboard anchors available.

Sandbag Paddleboard Anchor

Sandbag Paddleboard Anchor
(AMAZON)

What is a Sandbag Anchor? A Sandbag Anchor is an anchor that can be filled with sand to keep your craft secure.

It also can be used as a waterproof dry bag to keep your devices, clothes, shoes, gadgets, and personal effects safe secure, and dry.

Available in 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 Liters.

You can find them in Yellow, Orange, and Green Color.

Two things in one package. Not a bad deal if you ask me. I would get one just to have it as the backup for your regular anchor.

Amazing design sand anchor that can be used for paddleboards, personal crafts, kayaks, and small watercrafts.

If you get on in a kit they usually come with a braided floating rope, stainless steel clips, and a buoy are included.

Solar Phone Chargers

Solar Phone Chargers
(AMAZON)

Never run out of juice for your gadgets.  With this solar charger, you can easily have a full charge available anytime.

Clip this to your backpack or belt loop and charge it all day long.

When paddleboarding, it’s important to bring a solar phone charger with you to ensure that you’ll be able to charge your phone even when you’re away from places with electricity or power sources.

The solar phone charges harness the power of the sun to then charge your phone’s battery on the go.

Making it the perfect gear for those that enjoy outdoor activities, like paddleboard yoga, and won’t have access to a power outlet easily.

With a solar phone charger, you can do your paddleboard yoga with no worries about having no cell phone battery at the end.

Since the charger doesn’t require external electricity, so while you’re doing it you can leave the charger collecting the sun power to later charge your phone.

Safety Straps

paddle board safety straps
(AMAZON)

There are usually three types of safety straps when it comes to paddleboarding.

It’s important to have those three types of safety straps when doing paddleboard yoga to ensure that the board, the paddle, or any of your equipment drifts away from you.

Ankle straps – The ankle straps are used to secure the board to your leg. In the event that you fall from the board, it will not drift away from you.  At the same time, the board will be close by to you to help you out of the water.

Paddle Strap – The second type of strap will keep the paddle attached and safe to the board, another safety measure to ensure that nothing will disappear in the water while you’re paddleboarding.

Equipment Straps – The third type is to ensure the safety of your items and stuff in a way that everything will be secure on the paddleboard or in your backpack.

Air Pumps

paddle board air pump
(AMAZON)

If you have an inflatable paddleboard, then you’ll for sure need an air pump to inflate and deflate it.

Your inflatable paddleboard then is easy to inflate and won’t take more than 10 minutes to do it with a manual pump.

Most models already come with a manual pump that does require some effort to do it and will probably make you sweat a little in the process.

So if you want to avoid that, inflate the paddleboard much faster with almost zero effort then there are the options of electric air pumps.

The electric models can even help you deflate the paddleboard at the end, removing all the air to help you pack it super tight.

Board Fins

Paddle Board Fins
(AMAZON)

Paddleboard fins are actually a very necessary gear that will make the paddling experience much better since they are used to keep the paddleboard moving in a straight line.

The fins are attached at the end of the paddleboard and keep it from slipping to the sides while giving you more stability and speed.

If you want to improve your paddleboard yoga experience and performance, then a fin is a must-have gear for you.

There are different types of fins, and you can get the one that’ll suit all your needs.

Paddleboard Life Jackets

Paddleboard Life Jackets
(AMAZON)

I personally have to wear a life jacket if I’m on a paddleboard or a fishing boat. Is a safety thing.

A life jacket could be the difference between life and death.

Especially being on a paddleboard, since most of the time I will be by myself and far away from others.

Today’s life jackets are lightweight, not very bulky, and are easy to wear.

They come in an array of safety colors and designs. Because of the safety thing, as a rule, if I’m in the water, I have a life vest on.

They even have an Automatically Inflatable Life Vest… You pull a cord and it expands… Talk about cool. Check it out here.

They can also be used for storage as some of them come with pockets.

Paddleboard Yoga Gear To Wear

Having good paddleboard yoga equipment to wear will ensure that your paddleboard experience will be good, and you’ll enjoy every minute of it.

Garments for yoga need to permit you space to move and stretch, so a wet suit just won’t do.

You should pick something that you can swim in on the off chance that you tumble off the board, so a swimsuit, speedos, or board shorts are ideal.

Spandex athletic equipment is additionally a choice, however loose jeans ought to be avoided.

Hats

UPF Paddleboard hat
(AMAZON)

Having a good paddleboard sun hat will protect you from the harms of UV radiation.

Radiation can cause sunburns, faster skin aging and in the long term, it can lead to skin cancer.

Some paddleboard hats already come with UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) that effectively protects your face from UV radiation.

Before buying a paddleboard hat you need to consider how exposed you’ll be to the sun and UV radiation levels.

What’s the altitude, the season, which time of the day you’ll go paddleboarding if the water will reflect the sun on your face.

If it’s going to be windy, and so on. Go for the hat that will offer you full protection against all those things.

Shirts

UPF Paddleboard shirt
(AMAZON)

Paddleboard shirts are needed not only during the summer but also during the winter and cold weather.

A high-quality paddleboard shirt will come with UPF protection to effectively protect your skin from UV radiation.

This will ensure that no sunburns will appear in your arms, shoulders, and back.

In the long term, sunburns can lead to skin cancer and faster skin aging.

And during the winter, a good paddleboard shirt will protect you from the cold weather, especially if it’s windy.

They come in different designs and you can find something that you will love to wear.

Choose the fabrics that dry faster, so you don’t have to worry about getting a cold.

For both cases, the shirt needs to fit you well, be very comfortable in order not to limit your movements.

While protecting you to ensure that the paddleboard experience will be good.

Pants

UPF Paddleboard pants
(AMAZON)

Paddleboard pants are also a much-needed item to protect you from the sun and from the cold.

The fabric of those pants are usually super flexible and durable, so you won’t have your movements limited.

You won’t feel yourself overheat with the pants while having a better grip to get on and off the paddleboard

Some pants models have an extra reinforced knee pad in case you want to paddleboard on your knees.

You’ll stay warm during the winter, especially with the fabrics that dry super fast and protected from UV radiation and possible sunburns during the summer.

Some paddleboard pants even come with secure pockets, so you can keep things safe while you’re paddleboarding, to ensure maximum comfort and zero worries.

Shoes

upf paddle board shoes
(AMAZON)

Some people don’t consider paddleboard shoes an important item.

In fact, they are probably one of the most important and needed ones.

Especially if you paddle on rivers and lakes that may have sharp rock or pieces of debris at the bottom.

Or in the event that you need to walk a long distance from the beach to your car.

There is a great selection of shoe designs to choose from.

Paddleboard shoes are made of a resistant material and waterproof that will comfortably embrace your feet when you’re walking or standing on the board.

They will keep your feet dry and protect them from any harm.

And depending on the material of the soles, you’ll have an even better grip to stand on the board.

Your ordinary shoes won’t work very well on a board, so take deck shoes, flip flops, or even water shoes with you, as these can adapt to wet conditions.

Ropes and Fasteners

There are several reasons why you would need ropes and fasteners while paddleboarding.

For example, you will need ropes for your anchors and fasteners to secure equipment to your paddleboard or your backpack.

Some people use two anchors, one for the nose and one for the tail of the paddleboard.  So there are 2 ropes there.

What about securing your board to a branch, there is another rope.

What I’m trying to say is to come prepared, you never know where you will need a rope or fastener.

Fasteners

Ropes and Fasteners
(AMAZON)

Getting a pack of bungees that has several lengths available may be all you need.

Usually, these bungee kits come in a package of 20-50 with sizes that range from 6″ to 2′.

They usually come in in an easy to carry bag.  Having some of this handy will be very helpful.

You will be amazed at the times they will come in handy.

Ropes

With today’s rope, you will find that they are not as bulky as they used to be.

Nowadays, they are thin, yet very strong, durable and they do not take a lot of space.

My advice is to bring different lengths…. 5′, 10′ and maybe even a 20′.

Get them in different colors to easily know which one you would need at a glance.

Equipment Bags

You do not need a whole lot of Paddleboard Yoga Gear, however, you will require someplace to keep everything.

Find paddleboard equipment bags that are comfortable and easy to wear as you may be wearing them for quite some time.

You can use paddleboard bags to keep stuff like your telephone, keys, shoes, extra clothes, and your assortment of paddleboard gear.

Waterproof bags come in various shapes, and sizes and are very helpful to have when on a SUP.

  • SUP Backpacks

Paddleboard Racks

Storing an inflatable paddleboard is as easy as deflating it and putting it back in the bag.

Now if you have a Rigid paddleboard, it could be a little trickier.

To save space or to display your equipment, there are free-standing, wall and ceiling paddleboard racks that have been specially made for SUP boards.

It is now easy to find the rack or support adapted to your board, but also for your paddles, life jackets, shirts, or other paddleboard yoga equipment.

There are basically 3 variations of paddleboard racks to choose from:
